Come and admire Batley's attractive town centre. The Market Place, where the open market is held, is a fine set piece of Victorian architecture. There are so many beautiful buildings in Batley, take your time to appreciate the wondrful details in the stone work, or pick up a copy of the Batley Town Centre Heritage Trail leaflet to find out even more.
Batley is a compact town reached easily by road or rail. It is served by the main Leeds to Liverpool rail link and is only minutes from the M62 motorway. We have over 400 free car parking spaces throughout the town, and if you're thinking of getting about by taxi, that's easy too since Batley has more taxi's per resident than any other town in the UK.
Textiles have played a major role in the life of the town, not only its manufacture, but also in terms of design, retailing and education. In its heyday Batley was at the forefront of textile production and the 'shoddy' centre for the world. Since then its industry has adapted and developed. Students trained at the Batley Art College have developed their careers as designers, manufacturers and retailers.
Say "Batley" to many people and they immediately think of Batley Variety Club, now called the Frontier Club, which has some time been the venue for many of Britain's top performers at some stage in their career.
We are very proud of Batley, and rightly so. We invite you to visit the town more often to enjoy its shops, amenities and leisure facilities.
